Lara Logan CBS Chief Foreign correspondent

new Lara Logan news Lara Logan special report featured on CBS 60 Minutes Sunday, April 22, 2007

Lara will report on the dismal, violent daily life of Iraqi citizens today including the fact that half of all of Iraq's physicians have fled the country.

Lara Appears on CBS Late Night with David Letterman 3/21/07!

Lara Logan's 'Bad News in Iraq' Reports Censored by CBS?

Lots of blogs, sites and news outlets are reporting on the fact that CBS Evening News recently failed to air one of Lara Logan's most damning reports -- "Battle for Haifa Street" -- about the ongoing disastrous debacle currently known as the Iraq War.

Apparently the video report was uploaded online on January 18 but was not broadcast during the news.

Lara then sent a request for help to get the report aired while letting the online community know that CBS had posted it on their website without broadcasting it. As mediachannel reports, "Logan’s email, with the one-word subject line of ‘help’, was sent to friends and colleagues imploring them to lobby CBS to highlight that people are interested in seeing the piece. In it, Logan argues that the story is 'not too gruesome to air, but rather too important to ignore…It should be seen. And people should know about this.'”

TEXT OF THE EMAIL FROM LARA LOGAN:

From: lara logan
Subject: help

The story below only appeared on our CBS website and was not aired on CBS. It is a story that is largely being ignored, even though this istakingplace verysingle day in central Baghdad, two blocks from where our office is located.

Our crew had to be pulled out because we got a call saying they were about to be killed, and on their way out, a civilian man was shot dead in front of them as they ran.

I would be very grateful if any of you have a chance to watch this story and pass the link on to as many people you know as possible. It should be seen. And people should know about this.

If anyone has time to send a comment to CBS – about the story – not about my request, then that would help highlight that people are interested and this is not too gruesome to air, but rather too important to ignore.

Many, many thanks.

One site uses the headline/entry "Lara Logan Muzzled" and another commentary calls on CBS to "let Lara Logan do her job." Epluribus Media -- a site for "citizen journalism, for the people, by the people" writes this about Logan and the most recent CBS misstep:

Lara Logan has been posting honest and courageous reports from Baghdad since before the fall of Saddam. Her latest, though, has been shuffled off to CBS' web site without being broadcast on the network.

Logan's report with fairly explicit video discusses and shows evidence of torture and what would be considered mass murder in most situations. Click the arrow below to watch the entire report.

The report has since been made available online at the CBS News site here (required Real Player or Windows Media Player), or more easily viewable online at YouTube.

A second installment entitled "Battle for Haifa Street Continues" shows US soldiers on their daily rounds and was aired during the news last week; it is also now online at CBS. Lara's report shows soldiers finding a hidden deadly IED on and subsequently destroyed by a robot on a Haifa Street corner.

We at LaraLoganFansite.com continue to be appalled by Couric's relegation of Logan to second and third tier reports on the evening news. We'd be willing to bet CBS would re-gain some of their rapidly declining ratings were the broadcast to lead with Lara everytime she has a report to file and especially when she reports live from Baghdad.

You can send fast feedback to CBS by using this online form or this one (or both). And if you can take the time to call or do snail-mail:

(212) 975-4114

Here are links to some of the sites writing and reporting about this most recent bout of CBS censorship:

Note: While this specific report from the 18th hasn't aired on CBS News yet as of this writing, CBS has shown other reports from Lara about Haifa street.
